Badlands Board

In a previous update, we shared our plans for the Badlands board. This would be a compact 4-fold board that folds out into an L shape, fitting snugly at the bottom-right of Night City.

We had requested samples for this board for proof of concept and played around with it physically in the office.

After a while, two issues became very apparent to us. The folds created a lot of weight on the center fold, and subsequent stress tests caused the center fold to peel and rip, which would be inevitable after extensive use.

The other issue we found was that the ends of the board were unsupported because of the diagonal cut. The ends would bend inwards, which was bound to cause warping in the long run.

The solution was simple: Remove the diagonal fold, making this a 3-fold board. The removal of the fold made it less floppy. The middle board was straighter, and the folds fell into the middle, supporting each other.

And it fits in the existing box without changing its dimensions. In the end, there was no need to make the board any more compact than necessary as it had compromised its structural integrity.

And that's all we have for this week! Until the next one, C-YA.

Components Tray & Plastic Samples - 6th Street Gang, Delamain
over 1 year ago – Fri, Mar 03, 2023 at 04:41:29 PM

Hey choomba!

Things are moving on all fronts and we're working steadily toward the final product. Today, we'll take a look at vaccum trays and more plastic samples!

As usual, please note that these are T1 plastics, which are the preliminary injections into our plastic molds. There will be further color adjustments to be made and details to be improved upon.

First, let's take a look at the plastic samples for 6th Street Gang, which we had unlocked as a Stretch Goal during the campaign.

And Delmain's vehicle, which is a standalone module included in the core box that can be put into any game, even without the Motor Pool expansion.

Next, some organization! We've also been working on the vacuum formed trays with the manufacturers. For  the components trays, we want to account for and pay attention to:

  • Organized token trays once the tokens have been punched out
  • Card slots that accommodate the height and size of fully sleeved cards
  • Specific slots for additional components like color bases and dice
  • Adequate thumb slots to easily pull out nested components.

With these in mind, we worked around a preliminary design below.

We made housing for the dice near the center of the tray, with cards on the top, and token trays at the bottom. We anticipate players sorting out their hideouts, drones, and action tokens by gang, so we created 6 slots at the bottom for the 5 gangs included in the box, with a remaining space for story tokens. Of course, you are free to organize your tokens in any way you wish.

Our graphic team also helped to create vector files for logo embossing, which we applied to the 3 right slots, dictating space for 60 tokens that comprise the main currencies of the game: Eurodollar, Contraband, and Corporate Secrets.

Components were fit-tested with ample space to spare, and the tray was sturdy and did not deform during stress tests! We're happy to approve these moving forward and continue to work on other boxes and miniatures trays!

And that's all we have for this update!

Until the next one, C-YA.

Hey choomba!

We hope you're well! As we continue the approval process with the graphic files, we'll show you more progress we've made for the plastic samples of the game! Last week, we saw the first plastic samples of the core box miniatures.

This week, we'll take a look at the Gang Wars Expansion. Please note that these are T1 plastics, which are the preliminary injections into our plastic molds. There will be further color adjustments to be made and details to be improved upon. We expect another 2-3 rounds of modifications before approving the final plastics.

Project Update & First Plastics
over 1 year ago – Sat, Feb 04, 2023 at 10:20:17 AM

Hey, choomba!

We hope you're doing well. This week, we'll be sharing the production updates happening with Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City in the last few weeks as well as our first plastics for the game!

Graphic Files

We have finalized, edited, and proofread the various graphic files for the game. The files were also sent to the licensor to receive feedback and approvals. Once the files are approved, we'll start the very final check before sending everything to the factory and move to digital and print proofs.

Resin Approvals and Plastic Production

Following the last update with the remaining approved resins, the manufacturers are now checking, analyzing, and preparing each figure and the molds for plastic production. These molds are laid out together in the molds in the most efficient manner, considering amount of copies of each figure, colors, product. Once the molds are ready, we start to receive fist injections to check and possibly do some final adjustments before mass production.

Below you can see a few pictures of the first plastic samples we have recently received. Please note as these are first injections, there are still color adjustments to be made and details to be improved upon. We expect another 2-3 rounds of modifications before approving final plastics.

Maelstrom
Valentinos
Voodoo Boys
Tyger Claws

And that's all we have for this update!

Until the next one, C-YA.
